Spooky Halloween Campfire Stories https://www.ironman4x4.com/blog-posts/spooky-halloween-campfire-stories/ Fri, 30 Oct 2020 07:41:45 +0000 https://ironman4x4.com/?p=7439

SPOOKY CAMPFIRE TALES FOR HALLOWEEN!

This Halloween, toast some marshmallows and spook your friends with these (kid-friendly) campfire tales. All you need is:

THE GHOST WITH ONE BLACK EYE

Story courtesy of Mom Junction

In the early 1900s, there existed a tavern on the road that went from the countryside to the city. Travelers would stop there to eat and rest. The entire tavern would be full except for one haunted room.

Years ago, a fight at the tavern left a man with a severe blow to one eye. As he fainted, the others at the tavern placed him in that room. He never recovered and died in the room. Since then his ghost seemed to haunt that room.

One day a cowboy came to the tavern. The old owner told him that there was no room except the haunted one.

The cowboy said, “I rope bulls and wrestle with them every day. I ain’t afraid of any ghost,” and took the room. That night during a bath, the cowboy heard a booming voice, “I am the ghost with one black eye.”

The cowboy panicked and looked around to find none. He wrapped his towel and ran as fast as he could.

Another day, a barmaid came for a room but the tavern was full. The old man said that there was only one room left and it was haunted.

The barmaid said, “I have seen the most violent of men at the place where I work. No ghost can scare me. I will take the room.”

That night, while tucking into the bed, she heard the same words in the booming voice. A shiver ran down her spine. She wore her gown, picked her luggage, and dashed out of the tavern.

A few days later, came a couple with a son. The couple wanted a separate room for themselves, but the only other room available for the son was haunted.

The son said, “Cool, a real ghost. I will live in it!”

That night, when the boy switched off the lights to go to bed, he heard the voice, “I am the ghost with one black eye.” The young boy calmly switched on the bed lamp and said, “Well, I am a boy scout. If you do not keep your mouth shut henceforth, you will be a ghost with two black eyes.”

There was utter silence. The boy switched off the light and slept peacefully. Since that day, the ghost never disturbed or scared anyone.

10 HOLES

Story courtesy of Ultimate Camp Resource

Once in a little village not that far from here, there was a problem. Animals had started dying off, one by one. In the morning their owners would see them lying outside with 10 holes in their chest. The people thought it was the work of their neighboring town (insert name).

Then, one night a man by the name of Fred was closing his store for the night. It was very late, and he was anxious to get home to his family.

He shut off all the lights, then closed the door with a satisfying click. As he turned around to go to his car he saw a dark shape in the distance.

He stood still trying to make out what it was. As it got closer, Fred turned to go. It was the last move he ever made. The next day they found him with 10 holes in his chest.

This made the town quite worried. They were scared of more people getting killed. So, one night two brave brothers, John and Jacob went out to get rid of the problem. They each took knives, and walkie talkies. They said good-bye to their father, and kissed their grandmother on the way out.

The two boys decided to split up. One would go by the site of the murder, and the other would wander the streets. If one was attacked they could use their walkie talkie to contact the other. So they set off, keeping a close eye on the shadows. Nothing seemed to be happening. It was a calm night, and it seemed like they would get home safely. But then suddenly John heard a crackling in the bushes behind him. He tried to call his brother, but it was too late. The figure leaped out of the bushes and tackled him, gouging his chest with its nails. Luckily Jacob heard the commotion, and rushed to help him. He leaped through the air and cut off the creatures right hand. The creature screamed and ran.
Jacob took John to the hospital, and they bandaged him home. The doctors called them heroes, and finally they got home at 6 that morning.

Only their grandmother was up, so they said good morning, then went back to bed. Neither of them noticed she was missing her hand.

A GRAVE STORY

Story courtesy of Icebreaker Ideas

Two young girls, Maddy and Sue, were best friends who spent a great deal of time together. Maddy was spending the night at Sue’s house when they decided to tell ghost stories. Maddy told a story she heard from her older brother about how, if you stabbed a knife into a grave, the person buried there will reach out, grab you, and pull you into the grave.

Sue did not believe the story. Maddy agreed, but said she was afraid to try it even it was just a story.

Sue exclaimed, “I am not afraid. I would try it.”

Maddy called Sue’s bluff, daring her to go to the cemetery down the road and prove that she was not afraid.

Both girls went to the kitchen downstairs, where they found a flashlight and a knife. Maddy decided her dare was silly and begged Sue not to go, but Sue wanted to prove the story was a hoax and that she was not afraid. Off she went, into the dark night.

Maddy sat at the kitchen table waiting for her friend. Fifteen minutes passed, then twenty. Finally, after thirty minutes, Maddy ran to her parent’s bedroom, woke them up, and told them what had happened. She cried in her Mother’s arms as her father grabbed a flashlight and headed towards the cemetery.

When he returned, he was pale and shaken. In a solemn voice, he told Maddy and her mother what he had found. There, on a grave, was Sue, dead with completely white hair. The police were called and after listening to Maddy’s explanation of why Sue was in the graveyard, the investigation determined the death was accidental. When Sue stabbed the knife into the grave, it went through the hem of her nightgown.

Thinking she had been grabbed by the person buried there, she died of fright.

GVM Upgrade to suit Suzuki Jimny https://www.ironman4x4.com/blog-posts/gvm-upgrade-to-suit-suzuki-jimny/ Wed, 23 Sep 2020 07:06:16 +0000 https://ironman4x4.com/?p=7392

FEDERALLY APPROVED 1785KG GVM UPGRADE TO SUIT

SUZUKI JIMNY 2018+

UP TO 350KG MORE PAYLOAD

Ironman 4×4 now offers the FIRST AND ONLY federally approved GVM Upgrade to suit Suzuki Jimny GJ 2018+.

Released to the market on the 18th of September, the GVM kit provides Suzuki Jimny owners with more loading capacity for accessories and gear to cater for their towing and off-road needs.

The original GVM of 1435kg is increased to 1785kg with revised axle loading limits of 800kg front and 1100kg rear, this is up from the OE figures of 680kg and 880kg respectively.

The suspension upgrade boasts exceptional ride quality and handling characteristics, as well as an increase in ride height 45mm above standard.

WHY CONSIDER A GVM UPGRADE?

The usable payload of many 4×4 vehicles today is minimal. By adding basic vehicle accessories and having two or three adult passengers, the vehicle will be brought close, if not over, its legal maximum weight, also known as the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).

With an existing payload of 340kg, a GVM Upgrade allows Suzuki Jimny owners to fit bull bars, winches, roof racks, recovery gear and a carry camping equipment, without exceeding the new GVM.

With each accessory carried by the vehicle, the responsiveness of the Original Equipment (OE) suspension changes. The OE manufacturer designs their suspension kits for comfort above all else and the addition of load can compromise ongoing performance.

GVM Upgrades assist in satisfying insurance and road transport regulation requirements, as Ironman 4×4 has conducted all required testing to ensure complete integration with all safety systems and requirements as well as compliance with federal laws.

Trip to the Tip – Cape York https://www.ironman4x4.com/blog-posts/trip-to-the-tip-cape-york/ Sun, 05 Jul 2020 04:57:51 +0000 https://ironman4x4.com/?p=7324

Cape York is a must do for most 4WDers and travelling to the tip of Australia should be something on every bucket list.

For Queensland residents, the Cape opened back up at midday on Friday. So, to them, enjoy and explore! For the rest of us, it’s a good time to plan and prepare for when the borders reopen.

For the most up to date news on travel to the Cook Shire, click here.

Whether you are heading to the cape now, or planning a trip for later, preparation is the key to making your trip the best it can.

TRACKS

There are a few tracks you can tackle around far North Queensland. Map are essential, as cell service is almost non-existent and may help you stay on track.

Five key tracks at Cape York include:

Old Telegraph Track

Length: 70km south and 82km north

Frenchmans Track

Length:179km

Creb Track

Length: 60km

Cape Melville Track

Length: Part One: 233km Part Two 376km

Bloomfield Track

Length: 235km

Always check track access before you leave. Some tracks are open seasonally or closed due to weather.

SUPPLIES

Although there are fuel stations and roadhouses on your travels, it’s always good to hold some extra fuel, water and snacks along the journey. Your fuel usage can change from day to day, with the longest distance between fuel pumps being 140km. Don’t expect the cheapest fuel, remember you are heading into a remote location.

If you like a drink (I mean who doesn’t) be aware of the restrictions for BYO alcohol in Cape York. Some areas of the Cape have booze bans and will issue fines. Do your research and hit up the pubs along the way.

YOUR RIG

Preparing your vehicle can make or break a trip to the tip. We have listed some key products you will need to make it to the cape and back:

SUSPENSION

Between the extra load in your vehicle and the rugged terrain a good suspension upgrade will take the pressure off your vehicle.

SNORKEL

Cape York is known for some of the deepest and most extreme river crossings. A snorkel will make sure your engine receives the air you need to get through.

BULL BAR

As with many outback locations in Australia, the risk of hitting wild animals like kangaroos and feral pigs is high. A bull bar will protect the front end and keep you on your way.

WINCH

If travelling alone then this is a must, but in general a winch is a must-have item to get you out of trouble and up those steep hills.

RECOVERY KIT

Trust us, you will need a good snatch strap and tree protector when travelling to the tip.

TYPE GEAR

Between inflating and deflating tyres for the varied terrain and the potential of a puncture, making sure you have the right gear for your tyres is crucial. We suggest a compressor, deflator and tyre repair kit.

ROOFTOP TENT

As towing can sometimes be a challenge with the terrain, we recommend a rooftop tent to keep you comfortable during the night. And if you are towing, throw in some extra bearings because you will need them.

DUAL BATTERY SYSTEM

You need to be fully self sufficient when heading to the Cape. Running a dual battery system will help to power your extra accessories.

The Simpson Desert https://www.ironman4x4.com/blog-posts/the-simpson-desert/ Sat, 23 May 2020 01:33:59 +0000 https://ironman4x4.com/?p=7242

We are longing to hit the red dune tracks in the Simpson Desert.

Since lockdown started, the Simpson has become number one on the bucket list. It’s a place so many dream to visit and some of our lucky staff already have.

Located in three states, South Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland, the Simpson Desert covers 170,000 square kilometres, making it the fourth largest desert in Australia.

The Simpson Desert is only available to venture through, March to December, as the hottest months are just too dangerous.

With 1,142 of sand dunes, wide open spaces and some great landmarks along the way, the Simpson Desert is worth the trek.

SO, WHAT DOES THE SIMPSON DESERT OFFER?

TRACKS

Crossing the Simpson Desert, sounds easy, but there are many things to consider. With some tracks running eat to west and others north to south, planning is needed before you head out.

The fact you are basically on your own, crossing numerous dunes means you will need to be well prepared.

There are many sites that can provide more indepth information about the Simpson, including the requirements for permits, etc. But we have listed some of the our favourite Simpson Desert tracks below.

French Line & QAA Line

The shortest, most used and most difficult track to travel.

Rig Road

The longest and most southern route in the Simpson Desert. With Clay eroding on top of the dunes, the track is becoming more and more difficult.

WAA Line

This track has lower dunes than the others but, don’t be fooled, they can actually be more technical due to the double crests.

Hay River Track

Full of vibrant colours, narrow tracks and shifting sand it is a gorgeous adventure.

WHAT TO PREPARE

The Desert is all about being self-sufficient. The recommendation is to carry at least seven litres of water per person per day and emergency food and water for an additional seven days. You will need to consider fuel consumption, as driving on soft sand increases your fuel consumption.

Some Ironman 4×4 products to help you on your trip include:

SAND FLAGS

Used to increase your safety and be seen when cresting dunes

WATER TANKS

Water is incredibly important when in the desert, ensure yours is big enough

LONG RANGE FUEL TANKS

Fuel consumption is significantly increased when driving on soft sand, a long range fuel tank will help ensure you have enough on board.

SUSPENSION UPGRADE

Besides the additional weight you will be carrying across the Simpson, it’s best to make sure your suspension is up to check before hitting the sand.
